Travel Essentials/Packing Tips for vacation!

Some people love to lug around three suitcases. Some people love to carry a single backpack. The way you pack for a vacation TRULY says a lot about you. Nonetheless, it is important to plan your suitcases days, weeks, or even months in advance! I don't know about you, but I like to imagine the outfits I will wear on vacation months before I actually go!

This tip is definitely easier said than done. Overpacking is very common, but can be resolved by choosing the right outfits. Of course, this all depends on the amount of time you stay on vacation, but let's say you are packing for a two-week vacation.

First, it is important to plan your outfits as your pack your suitcases. I like to pack my outfits in a bigger check-in suitcase, so I can purchase clothing or souvenirs in my travels. For a two-week vacation, I recommend packing 2 to 3 sets of pajamas, 5 bottoms (jeans, other pants, skirts, shorts), 10 tops, 3 shoes (sneakers, fancy shoes, normal shoes), socks, 2 outerwear, and accessories.

Respect the customs, including dress code!

Every country has its own traditions, cultures, and customs. Just as you respect every country's language, respect the customs, such as dress code. Some countries are generally more conservative than others, and you should understand that before visiting. In these countries, try your best to cover your shoulders and knees. For example, even though Egypt was very warm over spring break, I typically wore a shirt and loose pants. Loose long-sleeve clothing allows you to be both respectful and cool in the warm weather.

Vacuum-packing is a type of packing that allows you to compress your clothing in a heavy-duty plastic bag by using a vacuum. Although the weight of your suitcase does not really change, compressing your clothing this way gives you more space in your suitcase for other things, such as souvenirs. This tip can especially be helpful for winter jackets and sweaters.
